The Straits Ensemble returns to the Jazz Loft to present their latest trove of songs representing the cultural diversity of Singapore Sing Our Songs "Gratitude for Hope and an Audacious Future" The Straits Ensemble is a project founded by bassist and composer Felix Phang, but features compositional contributions from the collective. The aim of the project is to find a magical fusion of the cultural life of Singapore represented in music, with the diverse ethnicities that form the population represented in both content and instruments. The various musical starnds involved include wEuropean and Indian classical, jazz, Malay, Arab, Chinese and the smorgasbord of global references which is part and parcel of our modern heritage. An invitation in the words of the ensembke themselves: Pull up a chair and join The Straits Ensemble family where there is a seat for everyone at the table. We're thankful for the opportunity to gather again, in celebration of our humble progress as a new collective, and to share our audacious hopes for 2023. So raise a glass and join us in beating the drum, to a bigger, better new year.
